Firearms Application Process/Requirements
All firearm applications for residents of Mantua Township are handled at the Mantua Township Police Department. Persons applying for a Firearms ID Card (needed to purchase long guns-rifles, shotguns, etc.) or a Permit to Purchase a Handgun, must obtain an application from the Police Department. This application requires the applicant to provide personal information that allows for a background investigation done by members of the Police Department. This process includes the providing of references by the applicant, fingerprinting (submitted to the New Jersey State Bureau of Identification), Mental Health record check, and a thorough background check.

Fees as of 2009

All New Applicants must be fingerprinted .  A $60.25 money order made payable to NJSP-SBI (New Jersey State Police- State Bureau of Identification) must be submitted with all state and federal fingerprint cards.

There is a $5.00 fee for Firearms ID Card and $2.00 fee for each handgun permit. These fees are collected as separate fees and are not included in the above, and must be in cash.

If a Mantua Township Resident has a previous handgun file, they must fill out a Request for Criminal History Record Information form SBA 212A (yellow), and submit it with an $18.00 money order, payable to NJSP-SBI (New Jersey State Police- State Bureau of Identification).

Any questions regarding the policy of the Mantua Township Police Department regarding the handling of firearms application can be directed to the Chief of Police at (856) 468-1920.
