The
Construction Office is responsible for the issuance of all construction permits, the
inspections of those permits, and Certificate of Occupancy inspections. The office is
located in the Municipal Building, upstairs, and may be
accessed by the stairs at the right hand side of the building.
Home
Improvements:
Homeowners may do any work in a home
which is their primary residence. If it is a rental unit you MUST have
a NJ licensed electrician and/or plumber do the related work. If
permits are required for the work you will be doing, they are
required for the work being done, not based on who is doing the work.
Permits are required in just about all instances, but if you are unsure,
please call the office.
If you
are considering finishing your basement, please remember; without proper
egress, no bedrooms are allowed. Direct access
to the outside is required. This is accomplished by either a door at
least 32" wide, or a window with a sill ht. 44" from the
floor, with a net clear opening of 5 sq. feet.
Please
keep in mind, if you do work without permits, and there is a problem such
as a fire, not only do you risk serious injury but you may have a problem
with your insurance claim. The permit fees are inexpensive, and the
inspections are for your, and future owners, safety.
If
you have pool questions, we have a pool packet that can be picked up any
time, which should answer all your questions. Pools require Zoning
approval and Building and Electrical permits (plumbing required if it is
to have a heater.) If you are wondering about a installing a shed, a
permit and Zoning approval are required for over 100
sq. ft only (over 10 x 10). Under 100 sq. ft. requires Zoning approval for
placement on the property only. Decks require Zoning approval and a
permit. Of course, all questions can be answered if you care to call
the office during the hours listed. All permits are currently a
minimum fee of $40.00.
